SENIOR ADULT MINISTRY

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH
(A ministry for senior adults, 55+.)
PURPOSE: To encourage senior adults according to Psalm 92:13-14, “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing.”
FOCUS: Our focus is to serve our seniors by providing a ministry of:
- Caring (being available as needed)
- Learning (providing a variety of resources that lead to spiritual maturity, as well as other learning activities)
- Serving (by encouraging and supporting our seniors to serve in other ministries in our church)
- Fellowship (providing social events as often as possible.)
WHAT WE DO: Our senior adults are involved in a variety of activities
- Senior Adult Sunday School:
- Women’s Mission Study & Prayer Group: Third Tuesday of each month, in room 1. We meet to study about and pray for our missionaries. Our mission is to inform and inspire the contemporary Baptist woman to influence her world for Christ. Led by Minnette Rhoads and Lena Short.
- Social Events: We enjoy doing service projects for our military servicemen and women, nursing homes, Hospice, missionaries, and trucker drivers who visit our church for worship services. Other activities throughout the year include ice cream socials, luncheons, picnics, and taking advantage of places to see in the city. We are always open to new ideas of places to go and things to do!
WHO WE ARE:
- Our History: Although there has always been a senior adult ministry at First Baptist Church, we began this phase of Legacy Leaders Senior Adult Ministry in March of 2003.
- Our People: Many of our seniors are involved in ministry in our church by teaching Sunday School, Team Kids, & VBS, ushering and greeting, serving as deacons, coming on Tuesday mornings to help clean the building, working in the kitchen as needed, taking meals to shut-ins, visiting those in the hospital and nursing homes, making phone calls, tending babies in the nursery, serving on various boards & committees (ie. mission, worship, finance, etc.), singing in the choir, providing special music, organ/piano music, participating in drama productions, keeping up our church history scrapbooks, being part of the prayer chain, counting the Sunday offering, going on short-term mission trips, and just being available to serve God whenever called upon! We are an active group of people!
- Resources: “Mature Living,” an excellent magazine published by Life Way, is available the first Sunday of each month. Our Legacy Leaders Newsletter is also available the first Sunday of the month with information to keep you updated on upcoming events. Copies of both are located in Room 1 or on the table in the foyer.
